UdeGAMES

I founded the University of Guadalajara's game development studio

Back in August of 2017, when I recently returned to Mexico after finishing my Master Degree in Serious Games at University of Skövde, Sweden, I brought with me the idea of turning my home university (in which I reincorporated myself to work), into the very first university in Mexico that had a game development studio.

I pitched this idea to the Innovation Department leader at charge, and she loved the idea. A few weeks later my pitch scaled to the council of rectors and UdeGAMES was approved! I received a modest budget to start developing the first serious game of University of Guadalajara, and we released the game called BrinCuentos.

During more than a year, my team and I hyped the University media and we took the opportunity to spread our mission: to boost the game development industry in our region. Many students, faculty, educational leaders and journalist joined the project and we started to write papers, performing research and designing a career path to the students that were interested in game development.

Another achievement of UdeGAMES was becoming finalist in the Tsinghua Santader Word Challenges 2018 and we flew to Beijing, China to contest other ten innovation projects from different parts of the world.

Sadly, during the end of 2018, the  administrative and political changes due the University of Guadalajara's rector substitution, affected the budget and we run out of it. This derivate that I wasn't able to retain my main development team and we had to freeze the project indefinitely.

Learning is the core mechanic of life.
